The Met Office has issued heat warnings across the week, and Bristol & West AC has reviewed whether training can take place safely.

Monday 22 June

Training sessions will go ahead as planned this evening, but activities will be adapted to reflect the hot conditions.

All athletes must bring plenty of water. Anyone arriving without water will not be permitted to train. Coaches will be running lighter sessions than usual and will closely monitor conditions. Please take things steadily and inform your coach immediately if you feel unwell at any point.

Tuesday 23 June – Thursday 25 June

All Bristol & West AC training sessions are cancelled.

The Met Office has now upgraded Wednesday and Thursday to a Red Extreme Heat Warning, its highest warning level, indicating a risk to health for the wider population and not only vulnerable groups. With temperatures forecast to reach around 37°C, including during the evening period when training would normally take place, the club has determined that conditions are not suitable for safe training.

This decision has been taken purely on health and safety grounds.

To be clear, no Bristol & West AC sanctioned sessions will take place between Tuesday and Thursday, either at the track or at any off-site training location.

Looking Ahead

We currently expect training to resume as normal from Friday. Should conditions or forecasts change, we will provide a further update.

Please take care of yourselves, stay hydrated, and look after one another during the hot weather.
