Our young athletes made the long trip to Cwrt Herbert Athletics Track for match 3 of the Youth Development League. We went into the match in joint 2nd, albeit 1 match point behind Team Bath, and knew that a strong performance was needed to stand any chance of getting promoted. With the South West Championships in Exeter and the Diamond League in London our squad was looking rather depleted...
At a track notorious for having a lack of shade, an extremely hot day with no breeze was hardly the best conditions for top performances. Across the age group events our athletes achieved 15 1st Place, 11 2nd Place, and 6 3rd Place finishes. This led surprisingly to 13 Personal Bests...
Our U16 Boys team finished 1st in their age group whilst the U14 Girls finished 3rd. We had 2 athletes in the Top10 performances on the day, both throwers, with Adam Kolacinski throwing 38.90m in the Hammer and Charlotte Spencer 25.98m in the Javelin. Out of the four 4x100m relays at the end of the day we finished in 1st place 3 times...our club loves a relay!!!
The athletes that travelled performed admirably and although depleted in numbers we finished 3rd on the day. This means we finished 2nd overall!!! Next up looks like a paper match between ourselves, Hereford, Swansea Harriers, and Cardiff Archers. Fingers crossed!!!
