5 MILE RESULTS
The Bristol & West Club Championships got off to a strong start last month crowning the half marathon winners at the Bath Half Marathon (the results of which can be found here).
The Dave Jones Prom Run held in Weston-super-Mare was the venue of the next race in the club’s championships. Despite the dry but breezy conditions 16 Bristol and West athletes competed on Thursday to contest the 5 mile title. We are pleased to announce the winners, who will shortly be receiving their medals to mark the achievement.
Women
Following a great cross country season, which saw her win the V45 British Masters Cross Country Championships, Jessie Sanzo ran a chip time of 31:30 (PB) to become the senior women's club champion over 5 miles. She was the first female finisher out of all the competitors.
In the W60 category, Jill Harrison ran a chip time of 36:18 to become the 5 mile champion in her age group. Her performances at this event this year rank her as the fastest V65 in the UK over 5 miles.
Men
Fresh off his title as the club champion over the half marathon distance, and contributing to the club’s 2nd place finish at the national 12-stage road relays, Kurt Taylor showed his form to take the title of the senior men’s club champion over 5 miles. His chip time of 24:45 was a PB, and is the 6th fastest time in the UK this year. Kurt won the race overall, finishing nearly 2 minutes ahead of 2nd place.
In the M40 category, Andrew Drake ran a chip time of 28:24 to finish 2nd M40 on the night and take the title of Bristol and West club champion. His time was a SB and nearly a minute faster than the time he recorded at the same course earlier this month.
Despite having competed in last weekend's Bristol Track Club Race Day, Tariq Kurd took the Bristol and West 5 mile club champion title in the M50 category. His time of 29:55 was the second fastest he’s run this year, and placed him 2nd M50 overall.

10k - GWR Towpath 10, Sport Centre Ashton Park School: Friday 25th May 2024 (available to enter before or on the night)
5k - South West PB Series, Odd Down Playing Field Bath: Wednesday 14th August 2024 (entries TBC)
