Midland Road Relays: Junior Girls

Paul Owen reports on how the junior girls’ teams fared at Sutton Park.

It was nice to be back on the paths of Sutton Park, and for many this was their first go at racing all together which makes the day even more impressive. U13

In the first leg for our A team, Gabi (15:22) ran a storming leg in 4th and 7th on the day! In the B team, Caitlin (first ever race) also ran superbly 16:10 (good enough for the A team!) and has another year in this age group. Second leg A was Phoebe (16:59 - 9th fastest leg) doing well taking us to 6th for the final leg. B team Mairi (17:28 - also another year in this age) ran a solid leg taking the team to 15th. Third leg A team Holly (16:28 - 6th fastest leg) brought us back up to an excellent 5th place, our best finish for many years for the girls, while in the B team Millie (first race - 17:29) ran well gaining 3 places, to bring them home in 12th overall! Excellent effort by all. U15

In the A team first leg Zahra finished 18th in her first race (16:07) - a very respectable time and certainly will dip below 16 next time around! Second leg was Eliza (20th - 16:53) gave a good account of herself and will likely better that next time, before handing over to Holly for the 3rd leg. Holly ran a blistering leg in 15:04 to pull 7 places back for 13th position overall and 4th fastest on the leg. With only 10 seconds between us and the top 10 I am confident the girls can aim higher next time around. A really enjoyable day, topped off with a stop at the services on the way back which always seems to hit the spot. The team are looking forward to the winter season now!
