Recreational Runners

Whitehall Runners

The Club hosts Recreational Running Sessions from Whitehall Athletics Arena (Off Johnsons Lane, Whitehall, Bristol BS5 9AZ). These sessions commence at 7 p.m. every Monday night and Thursday night. Monday sessions are led by at least 2 club coaches (Keith Brackstone and Chris Elson) and any number from the many Leaders in Running Fitness that are now qualified in the club, each of whom will take a group of varying ability. These runs use the track at Whitehall, the Bristol-Bath Cycle Path and also include areas off road when the nights allow, such as St George’s Park. In addition, the real beginner can use Whitehall track and the adjoining playing fields to build up from a base of absolutely no running at all with one of our Introduction to Running Courses. These sessions are augmented by a Thursday group run that is facilitated by the Leaders in Running Fitness. Thursday runs also commence at 7 p.m.

WISE Runners

Since December 2012 the club also organises WISE Runners at the Kip Keino Athletic Stadium, South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, WISE Campus, New Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol, BS34 8LP. This group meets at 7 pm on Wednesday nights and follows a similar format to the Whitehall Runners Group. A 1,200 metre warm-up jog is followed by drills to improve your running action, a session based on your ability level followed by a warm down and stretching.

Chris Elson, Keith Brackstone and Peter Mountain are the coaches and they are again supported by Leaders in Running Fitness who will aim to get you jogging, competing in local low key events such as the Aztec West Fast 5k or Saturday parkruns in Ashton Court, Pomphrey Hill or Chipping Sodbury right up to the Bristol 10k and Half-Marathon or even the London Marathon.

They tend to split into two groups to cater for faster and slower runners and everyone is welcome. Alan Wilcox the Group Leader is trying to set up a running group to cater for those who can’t run in the evening due to family commitments and has started a ‘school run’ on some weekday mornings at about 09:15. The group runs from the GP Surgery, Brook Way, Bradley Stoke.
