About juniors
Our junior members, from 9 to under 20, are very important to the club, now and in the future.
If you want to improve your athletics skills in running, throwing and jumping and find out how good you are, or could be, then Bristol & West Athletic Club is the club for you. So if you are aged 9 to 19 and want to be part of the club's exciting future then follow the links on the left of this page
We can give you the coaching in every event to improve your abilities and the competition to test them out. We must always remember that junior athletics is also about young people enjoying themselves and making new friends in a safe environment.
By September we'll have brand new athletics facilities in Central Bristol at the City Academy's new track at the Packers Ground at Whitehall where the club will have it's new headquarters. At Filton on the Filton College WISE campus we will share the new 8-lane track and field events facilities with other Avon-based running and athletics clubs and with Bristol University and the University of the West of England.
We have good links with primary and secondary schools in Bristol and aim to strengthen those with local club-school partnerships supported by Bristol City Council, Avon Athletics Association and with the Avon Athletics Network sponsored by England Athletics and run by the local athletics clubs.
In Central Bristol and at Filton we will have training nights especially for younger athletes on Mondays and Wednesdays. There will also be clearly-defined stepping stones for young athletes to progress at their own pace from the beginner groups to the more specialized event groups as they develop.
All this increased activity will need more support from parents who always form a key part of the volunteer workforce who help to run the club.
If you would like to talk to anyone directly, please contact one of our lead coaches for juniors: Andrea Lock (Filton); Hilary Nash, (Whitchurch/City Academy); Dave Taylor, Ali Hurford (boys 10-14) & Dave Bedwell (endurance Whitchurch).
