Packers Track Due to Open in Third Week of October 2010

09 Sep

At a meeting with staff of City Academy on Tuesday 7 September Cy Knibb and Keith Brackstone were advised that the new track at Packers would be finished in the Third Week of October 2010. After the meeting Cy and Keith went to site for a look around and Keith returned later with camera to take the photos that appear in the Photo Section. Having only been to Packers twice (on nights when most humans and dogs were inside) Keith’s return with camera was in kit which gave him the opportunity to explore the area on foot. Of most interest to the endurance fraternity is that a right turn out of the gate sees you onto the Bristol to Bath Railway footpath/cycleway within 400 metres without having to cross any roads. This footpath/cycleway looks as if it is well lit in both directions. Also of note was that if you run towards Bath there is a tunnel that takes 2 minutes to jog through – a venue that has been filed away for future reference should this winter leave us hunting for somewhere to do reps without snow on the ground.

All-in-all this new facility will be a great benefit to the club and the Officials and Coaches now need to get together to ensure that sessions are in place ready to maximise use of the facilities as soon as they are open.

26 Aug

Anton Mills who is 10 years old, competed in the recent open medal event at Bath and recorded a great win. This is his PB for the season 1.57.8, his previous being 1.58.  He started off really fast to lead the race from the front where he stayed to the finish. Anton joined the club earlier in the season under the watchful eye of Alison.

Holiday Training Arrangements &

Important Forthcoming Races

I will be on holiday from Sat. 14th August and will return on Sat 28th August.

The next training session with me will be on Bank Holiday Monday 30th August at Ashton Court at 10:00. This will be a steady run in preparation for the winter XC racing season.

Please still turn up at Whitchurch track on Wednesday evenings. I have arranged for somebody to take training while I am away.

The following races are suitable for everyone, so please try to compete for your club whenever possible.

Sat 4th Sept. Mile races in front of Bristol Cathedral, the day before the Half Marathon

Sun 5th Sept. Avon League, Yate

Sun 26th Sept. Midland Road Relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham

Sun 10th Oct. Gwent League XC – Bridgend

Sun 17th Oct. National Road Relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham

Sun 14th Nov. Gwent League XC – University of Bath

Sat 4th Dec. Gwent League XC – Blaise Castle, Bristol

On a final note if any parents or relatives would be able to help out this winter season with a small amount of team management on the day of the races, I would really appreciate it.

Likewise, transport to races needs to be coordinated – so any volunteers would also be very much appreciated.

Enjoy the rest of the summer
