parkrun Report – Saturday 27th July 2018

29 Jul

Keith Brackstone’s retirement from the position of Development Adviser at Bristol & West Athletic Club was marked at Ashton Court parkrun, just one of many athletics and running events, where Keith has made a significant contribution. The day also marked a return to wet and windy weather after the recent hot spell. Robbie STEWART was the second finisher, being led by an unknown runner without a bar code, better known as the Club General Secretary, Owain JONES, on his parkrun debut. Marie MALLOY was the officially recorded first female in 20:39.

Jarlath MCKENNA, made a welcome return to form, finishing, first at Cannon Hill, Birmingham in 17:30. Molly CHILTON and Jane COLMAN were the first females at Killerton and Minehead in 21:05 and 21:45 respectively.

There were also a number of second places. Steve MITCHELL was second at Cardiff in the Club’s fastest time of the day – 16:15. Sarah EVERITT and Sian DAVIES were the second females at Eastville and Longrun Meadow in times of 20:09 and 21:53. Danni SINCLAIR is awarded the Performance of the Week title, finishing second female at Pomphrey Hill in 20:49 a PB by 84 seconds.

Cardiff 10k – Sunday 2nd September 2018

25 Jul

The Nation Radio Cardiff 10K and 2K Family Fun Run will take place on Sunday 2nd September 2018. It should be a potential personal best course as this year the organisers have altered the route to make it flatter for runners. A video of the course can be found here: https://www.cardiff10k.cymru/news/2018/07/13/2018-fast-flat-course/

Third Cheltenham Midsummer Open Graded Meeting

22 Jul

Seeking an injection of speed, near perfect weather conditions greeted our two middle distance ladies at Cheltenham on Wednesday 18th July 2018.

Both were looking for fast even paced races, and both walked away with sparkling new PBs.

Charlotte Taylor-Green went first in the mixed ‘A’ race. The 600 metres Outdoor race is a much stranger affair than its indoor counterpart, as you hear the bell after 200 metres of running, a point reached by Charlotte in a little over 29 seconds. The 400 metre time was an equally impressive 59 seconds, and although slowing a little on the run for the line, she had just enough in reserve to hold off a late challenge from Coventry’s Jake Minshull. Both were awarded the same time of 1:30.5 this was a P.B. knocking 4.85 seconds off her 3 year old mark.

Not to be outdone, Sarah Everitt put her toes to the line in the second heat. Always ‘Rusty’ at the start, Sarah ran at the back of the group and a little wide Still she went out with intent and hit the bell in 35 seconds. Up the back straight Sarah was looking strong and by 400 metres, reached in 70 seconds, just had to hold on as best she could to erase her previous best. Her efforts were rewarded with a time of 1:46.7.

Keynsham 10k – Sunday 7th October 2018

17 Jul

Our near neighbours at Bitton Road Runners have resurrected the Keynsham 10k with all the proceeds going to the Bristol based charity Empire Fighting Chance.

The route is similar to previous Keynsham 10k races and Bitton have included team as well as individual prizes.

The race is a week before the first Gwent League cross-country and provides a good local road race opportunity before the winter sets in. Further details can be found at the following link:

https://www.fullonsport.com/event/keynsham10k/profile

The race is the day after the National Men’s 6-stage, Women’s 4-stage and Young Athletes Road Relays at Sutton Park which athletes should bear in mind before entering this event.
