Coaches

The Club is very committed to recruiting and training new coaches to help grow the club, improve its teams and above all help our younger and inexperienced athletes to enjoy our sport and to be the best they can be in their chosen events.

The Club will help you to gain the necessary qualifications and experience to coach the different event groups and will provide financial assistance for coach development courses in conjunction with the Avon Athletics Association.

Coaches’ courses are provided by UK Athletics and administered locally by England Athletics through the Avon Athletics Network. For details contact our Club Development Adviser (Keith Brackstone), Avon AA or England Athletics Club & Coach Support Officer, Richard Ayling.

Coach Mentors

Bristol & West held a Coaches Forum on 26th January 2011 at which it was agreed that the club would appoint Coach Mentors – experienced club coaches who would be available to provide advice and support to existing coaches and athletes or parents who are thinking of becoming coaches.

Current Coach Mentors are as follows:

Joy Bray – High Jump

Keith Brackstone – Endurance/Middle Distance Running

Murray Grant and Ken Holmes – Throws

Paul Weston – long jump and triple jump.

If you have any coaching questions then please address them to the appropriate event specialist. Coach Mentors for sprints, hurdles and pole vault will be announced as soon as volunteers have been identified for the roles.
