Gwent League #4 – Pontypool – Junior Girls

17 Feb

9 Feb 2019 – The weather was changeable, the hill was a beast.

Debbie Hunt reports on the u11s.

U11 Girls

Another good day out for the U11 girls team. Taking a walk of the course to familiarise themselves with the route and the hill. The girls got themselves warmed up and in a good position on the start line. Heading out fast towards the first hairpin corner, Holly Massey-Jones (24) was strong and steady and ran a great race progressing through the course and strong up the hill. Zoe Hunt ran a solid race (51), achieving her best finish position so far and not giving up on the hill. Both girls running into the finish very strong and determined for that final push to the line.

Paul Owen reports on the u13 and u15s.

U13 Girls

Molly Thomas 9th ran a consistent and strong race throughout, next up was Fleur Hayden 25th who despite having been ill ran a sensible paced race. Newcomer Sophi Hayes 30th ran a storming first race finishing in a creditable position, then Katie Beech 36th who just keeps making steady progress with every race, and with her seasons best was Niamh Roe 66thshowing some good form at the end of the race. Ruby Claridge 70th battled bravely with the hill and never far behind or in front was Olivia Tarr 73rd finishing off the team.

6th best scoring team on the day. Just outside top 10 but another good performance will be enough to get us in on the last race.

U15 Girls

3rd Megan Hornung ran the race exactly as planned and progressed her way through to an excellent finish always looking strong. Getting back to her best was 7th Danni Sinclair, who kept going despite some horrendous conditions – did I mention the hill? 32nd Grace Claridge was next in after running a steady race throughout to save that ever impressive sprint finish, followed closely all of the way by 33rd Carmen Chance. Danni is currently 2nd overall individually. Team in 4th – All to run for at Blaise. 3rd place is not impossible, but we’ll need all our girls out in force!

Everyone did themselves and club proud today in some tough conditions. Let’s have a really good turn out for the last race at Blaise and finish the season with a bang.
