Anna Ford reports:
A dry one this Saturday, though from my own experience at Severn Bridge parkrun – very windy! This week saw Bristol & West representatives at 25 different parkrun events. Locally there was a good showing with 25 showing at Ashton Court, where Joshua HABGOOD-COOTE came in first in 18:05, and Naomi AYLWIN was first female in 20:30 – a 3 second PB earning Naomi this week’s performance of the week. There were 17 B&W runners at Eastville parkun, 9 at Pomphrey Hill parkrun, and 5 at Chipping Sodbury – Maciej BIALOGONSKI was 1st here – recording a 4 sec PB of 15:56, an Age Grade of 81.59%, well run Maciej!
Steve GRANT has been doing a spot of parkrun tourism of late and reports back:
Burnage parkrun, South Manchester/Stockport. My 5th different parkrun around the South Manchester area and is probably my favourite to date. It is tucked away at a rugby club next to an Indutrial Estate but the directions were fine. They use the clubhouse as the HQ with some cover if wet and is shared with youngsters doing football training.
Its a course of loops with 1 and a half smaller loops down by the Mersey, before two bigger loops that take you through a nice ‘Leigh Woods’ like wooded path and back towards and along the Mersey again.
There is a nice bit of gentle undulation throughout to add some interest and a small number of steps to get you out of the wooded section. The wooded path is likley to be muddy when wet but the rest is a good tarmac path or light gravel.
The field when I ran was just over 170 and I think that is a bit bigger than they normally have and is about right for the course.
Certainly, worth a look if your up that way.
Lancing Beach Green
This parkrun starts on the green next to the beach at Lancing on the Sussex coast, so Lancing Beach Green parkrun it is.
The course starts with a loop of about 500m on the grass to thin the field down before going on the paved coastal path for a there and back run. The wind will be the biggest factor on your speed and yesterday was about a middling impact I’d say – it made a difference but was strong enough to blow you off your feet. Oddly I didn’t feel the wind on the way out, only when I was running back into it.
The coastal path sits on a raised bank seperating the shale beach from a lagoon and houses and is a pretty interesting feature in addition to the sea views.
Paid parking is directly adjacent along with toilets and a big cafe for post race. The field is about 150 and that suits the course.
As an alternative, the Worthing parkrun is less than 2 miles up the coast and is a there and back on the prom which is wider but with a bigger field of around 400.
