Race report U13 Boys National cross country relays Mansfield Sat 3rd Nov 2018

An early start does not deter the enthusiastic U13 Boys squad.

This year the fixture not only clashed with early bonfire night celebrations but also the end of half term holidays therefore a total nightmare for some team managers of junior teams. So although we were slightly below full strength the 7 lads who participated ran with conviction & enjoyed the day out as the enclosed photos suggest.

Every year this event becomes more competitive so with 106 teams on the start line the first leg was all about trying to avoid the bottle neck in the first 400m. So this was quite a steep learning curve for the first leg runners Misha Evans & Tomek Czerepinski who all ran to form, but improvement of the day must go to Alex Robertson who recorded a time almost one minute quicker then last year. His grand parents had made an effort to come & support us so I am sure this spurred Alex on.

Our 2 second leg runners Fred Cummins & Ronnie Wilmott held their positions well & I was impressed with Ronnie who must of been one on the youngest lads in the race.  So it was down to Eoin O’Halloran on the last leg of the A team to give it his best shot picking up 12 places to finish in 38th place.  New to competition at this level Jacob Franklin picked up a place in the closing stages & brought the B team home in 65th.

Looking forward we have another long journey to Pembrey next weekend when we hope to consolidate on our silver position in the league & who knows give Carmarthen a run for their money at their home fixture.
