Emma Withers reports:
The Gwent League 2018/2019 kicked off with a positive start on Saturday 13th at Cardiff. The sun finally shone on us and a blown down tree produced an interesting course for our u15 and u17 boys. Seven under 17 boys, the most in this category for Bristol and West in a long time and taking on an increased distance for the first time, 5.560m, were led out by Fred Hawker finishing 15th overall in 19.51, followed in 34th place, by Luke Iles 21.03, Lewis Adamson (43) 22.06, James Casling (44) 22.19, Nathan Marchant (57) 23.35, Otto Kingston (58) 23.40 and Robert Kiekuth (61) 24.51. The A team are currently in 9th position and the B team in 21st.
6 u15 boys lined up at 1.35 to take on 3,200m, 2 of them having only moved up to this age category in April. Jay Akbar ran a tactical race (17) in 11.40, followed closely by his team-mate Cole Edmonds (21) 11.46. Joseph Hull cheered on by his dad, Bill and brother, Rufus fresh from his debut in the earlier novice boys race, (42) in 12.32, Tom Beech (54), Jacob Roe (55) and Amos Kingston (57) showed perfect packing in 13.03, 13.07 and 13.11 respectively. The A team are currently 8th and the B team, 23rd.
Our next Gwent League fixture is at the lovely Pembrey Park on the 10th November…bring on the sand dunes!
