Ten members of Bristol & West Athletic Club competed in the UK Track & Field Championships held at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July 2018 in very warm conditions. Places in the UK Team for the European Championships were up for grabs.

Bethan WAKEFIELD finished eighth in her semi-final of the 100 metres in 12.35 having finished third in her heat in a season’s best of 12.04.

In the Men’s 400 metres Freddie OWSLEY finished eighth in his heat in 48.70. In the ladies equivalent Emily DIAMOND won her heat in 52.99 before finishing fifth in the final in 52.53.

Mike WILSMORE clocked 3:43.47 to finish fourth in his heat before finishing twelfth in the final in 3:50.29. As ever the final was a slow, tactical affair.

In the Women’s 5,000 metres both Kate MATBY and Eleanor DAVIS were in the pack early on with Eleanor finishing seventeenth in 17:00.0 and Kate twenty-first in 17:36.61.

Alex DALEY showed that his preparation for the 400 metre hurdles was spot on as he recorded a PB of 52.90 to finish fourth in his heat in 52.90. In the following heat higher competition member Tim STEPHENS finished fifth in his heat in 53.72.

In the field Lucy BRYAN finished fourth in the Pole Vault with a best clearance at 4 metres 15 centimetres while club stalwart Christina JONES threw 59 metres 21 centimetres to finish sixth in the Women’s Hammer.

Our congratulations to all of them and great to see the club colours being proudly worn on the TV coverage.
