Young Athlete in Fatal Road Traffic Accident

01 Jun

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of one of our young athletes.  Jack Bannister died in a road traffic accident last Thursday, 24th May 2018.  Jack ran for Bristol and West under-13 and under-15 boys between 2014 and 2016, taking a break due to injury, but hoping to return to running, with the Bristol and West door always open.
Our boys welcomed him back for the Westbury Wipeout last July, where the previous year Jack had encouraged the team to come over the finish line on piggy back.
Jack was a keen competitor in both Cross Country and Track races.  He was at the forefront in taking our under-13 boys to a silver medal in the Gwent League in the 2015/2016 winter season.  He also led the team home for a silver medal at the Midland Championships in Loughborough in January 2016, to the delight of his Team Manager and Coach, Alison Hurford.
Jack was a bundle of fun and mischief, kind and full of character, always ready for fun but equally always ready to run.  He will be remembered for his skinny legs and cheeky smile, a football never far from his feet.  Jack will be greatly missed by our under-13, under-15 and under-17 boys, who are both stunned and saddened by the news.
We plan to invite the boys to run the Windmill Junior parkrun in the coming weeks in a celebration of Jacks life.  Jack holds the course record at this event.
As ever at this difficult time, our thoughts are with his family.
