For the third year in a row Emily DIAMOND competed in a major global Championship when she represented England in both the 400 metres individual competition and the 4 x 400 metres relay in the Gold Coast, Australia.
In the individual event Emily finished third in her heat in 52.26 before being knocked out in the semi-finals where she finished fourth in 52.02. In the final of the 4 x 400 metres relay Emily ran the anchor leg where she was just run out of a medal position by a fast finishing Amantle Montsho who earlier in the championships had been crowned 400 metre champion.
Also in action was Lucy BRYAN in the pole vault where a clearance of 4 metres 30 centimetres saw her finish in seventh position.
Former club member Leon REID made a major breakthrough with a bronze medal in the Men’s 200 metres following the disqualification of Zharnel Hughes. Leon finished second in his heat in 20.73 before finishing second in his semi-final in 20.61 before clocking 20.55 in the final.
F43 Paralympian Akeem STEWART of Trinidad & Tobago who Zoe Goodman signed up to Bristol & West last year finished in ninth position in the (able-bodied) Shot Put with a best put of 19.10 centimetres, narrowly missing the cut for the final three rounds by just 32 centimetres.
