Yate Spints & Hurdles Meeting – Sunday 8th April 2018

Several club athletes took the opportunity of the Yate Sprints & Hurdles Meeting on Sunday 8th April 2018 to post some early season times and start getting back into the groove of outdoor racing. The conditions were fairly still but it was cloudy and cold which was particularly apparent for those on the timekeepers and judges stands for around six hours.

In the 60 metres Cleo TUNNICLIFFE finished third in Heat 1 in 10.04, Ellie BREEZE finished third in Heat 3 in 8.85 with Tamara JACKSON fourth in Heat 4 in 8.80. Mia BREEZE finished third in Heat 5 in 8.19 with Louis JOSEPH  in sixth place in Heat 7 recording 7.73.

James Casling took the honours in the first Heat of the 300 metre hurdles clocking  48.47 with Melissa COOKE (SW) clocking 50.88 for seventh place in the same heat. Madeline HARTNOLL (Under-20) clocked 75.40 for second place in the first heat of the 400 metres hurdles.

There were seventeen heats in the 100 metres but only the first had the benefit of electronic timing. Josh LEWIS finished fifth in Heat 1 in 15.17. Cleo TUNNICLIFFE (Under-13) was again in action this time clocking 15.7 for fourth place in Heat 2. Lottie STEIN finished fourth in Heat 4 clocking 14.9. Ellie BREEZE (Under-15) finished second equal in Heat 5 in 14.3 with Jessica LEIGH (Under-15) clocking 14.6 for sixth place in the same race.

In Heat 6 Jessica LEWIS (Under-15) finished third in 14.2 with Henrietta ANSTEY (F45) eighth in 15.5. In Heat 8 Kasavia SMOLKA-HEADLEY (Under-15) was second in 14.3 with Tamara JACKSON (Under-13) fourth equal in 14.0  and Lily BAILEY  (Under-15) eighth in 14.1. In Heat 9 Mia REEZE (Under-17) was a close second in 13.2. Melissa COOKE (SW) ran 13.6 to finish eighth in Heat 10.

Edward WILSON (Under-15) was a comfortable winner of Heat 11 in 12.1 finishing .7 of a second clear of his closest rival. Louis JOSEPH (under-17) finished third in Heat 14 in 12.4, with Ben TULLOCH (Under-20) the last club athlete to compete in the 100 metres finishing 4= in Heat 16 in 11.9.

First up in the 200 metre races was Henrietta ANSTEY who finished third in Heat 2 in 32.0. Alice MATHEWS (Under-13) won Heat 3 in 29.9. Jessica LEIGH (Under-15) who was having a busy afternoon finished seventh in Heat 4 of the 200 metres in 31.4. Kasavia SMOLKA-HEADLEY (Under-15) finished third in Heat 6 in 28.3, while Zara GABBIDON (SW) won Heat 7 in 26.9 with Lily BAILEY (Under-15) fifth in the same race in 28.6.

It was good to see club representation in the hurdles races with three girls competing in the hurdles with Under-13 Alice MATHEWS, Tamara JACKSON and Cleo TUNICLIFFE finishing second (12.5), fifth (13.3) and sixth (13.9) in the 70 metres hurdles. In the Under-15 race over 75 metres Libby DICKENS was a clear winner in 13.2 with Lottie STEIN  fourth in 14.9.

Ed WILSON (Under-15) won the 80 metre hurdles in 12.1 with Patrick KYLE third in 14.1.

Josh LEWIS (Under-13) finished fifth in his 300 metres race in 51.2 with elder sister Jess LEWIS (Under-15) clocking 47.6 for third in her race. Tia JACKSON (Under-17) finished second in her 300 metres in 41.1.

The competition concluded with 400 metre races but there were no Bristol & West competitors in any of the five races.
