The other big UK Indoor Meet of the weekend, aside from Cardiff and Birmingham was the Southern Meeting at Lee Valley.
Matt NEWTON ran an outstanding 22.87 seconds to win his 200 metres race and then followed with a fine second placed 50.73 400 metres. Caspar ELIOT is becoming an established 800 metre exponent after first wetting his toes at the event and recorded a consolidating 1:55.13 time to win his race. Miles CHANDLER is better known for longer distances but as 800 metres was the longest race available he clocked a very good time of 2:01.66, while Mark COTTAM who usually runs shorter distances clocked 2:02.27 over the same distance.
Higher Competition Member Yvette WESTWOOD clocked 7.82 for both of her 60 metre races and then finished second in her 200 metres race in 25.66 seconds.
Further afield HCA Under-23 Tom GALE competed in the prestigious High Jump Gala at Hustopec in the Czech Republic and against a strong International field jumped 2.20 metres to finish in tenth position.
Meanwhile in the Vienna Indoor Classic on Saturday Mike WILSMORE finished fifth in 3:45.28 in the 1,500 metres representing England, while in America Lucy BRYAN cleared a season’s best of 4 metres 27 centimetres in the pole vault at Kent State on 18th January 2018 before winning again at the Penn State Invitational on 26th January 2018 with a best clearance of 4 metres 18 centimetres.
