Pole Vaulters had a special Competition just for themselves at Cardiff this week and of course it featured B&W Athletes.
Last week I overlooked an excellent 60 metre hurdles from Hannah JACKSON. Sorry Hannah. Against a very prominent field and watched closely by her long-time Coach, Graham HOWELL, she recorded 9.39 seconds, which is well up with her best performances, to take seventh place in a class field.
With the emphasis on Cardiff last week we failed to take in other results which were pretty good. Freddy OWSLEY ventured to the Emirates Arena in Glasgow for the Scottish National Open Championships. He notched up two fine sprint runners-up places with times of 49.85 in the 400 metres and 22.13 in the 200 metres.
At Lee Valley for the South of England Championships Jordan HARRY (better known as a Triple Jumper) recorded a sound 7.47 for fifth in his heat of the 60 metres. Matt NEWTON made the semi-final of the 400 metres recording 51.03 seconds after a 51.13 qualifying round. Ex Club Captain Caspar ELIOT finished fifth in the final of the 800 metres with 1:58.14 after finishing third in his heat in a notable 1:54.96. Swindon based Higher Competition athletes Abbie CHAUNDY and Gamuchirai DUMBUTSHENA did well in their Long Jump competitions with Gam jumping 6.39 for eighth place and Abbie 5.43 for fifth place. Abbie also made the final of the 60m with an outstanding 7.87 seconds in her heat followed by an 8.00 clocking for fifth place in the Final.
