Weston Prom Run Report – Thursday 14th December 2017

15 Dec

The Fourth Weston Prom Run was held on Thursday 14th December 2017 on a revised 3 lap course to avoid congestion at the Christmas Ice Skating Rink – where else but Weston-Super-Mare can you ice skate on the beach.

Before we get to the results for the fourth run the individual and team positions have also been released after three races.  The individual series is calculated on the best 6 of the first 8 races, and the update provides results for those who had run the first three races only (http://www.westonac.co.uk/results/2017/Running%20Series.pdf).

Its easy to miss someone the way the results are presented so apologies if I have omitted anyone.  In the top 10 for their categories, we have Molly Chilton and Nicola Oldroyd who are 3rd and 4th SF, Rosey Mushens 1st F50, Tom Watkins as 5th SM, Steve Grant 7th M50, Jon Goodland 1st M60 and Tom Burgess 5th.  We also have runners well placed who have not run all the races so far and there are still four counting races left after the December one just gone.

The team competition comprises three categories of SF, SM and men’s vets (40+).  All nine races count with 4 runners out of a season defined pool of 6 counting.  If there are less than 4 runners in a race, the absentees are placed last so turnout is always a big factor in the team contest.

After the November race, the Bristol & West South Westerlies lead the SF competition from GWR 1 with the B&W North Westerlies back in the pack in tenth place.  The SM’s team is lying second behind GWR 1 and only a little ahead of Southville.  The men’s vets have three teams entered with our A team a distant fourth from Weston and as expected our B and C team having a good battle among themselves with it all to play for (http://www.westonac.co.uk/results/2017/Teams_Nov.pdf).

For the December race, we had 20 of the 287 competitors in a windy and briefly wet December race in this unusual three lap configuration.,  It was a battle against the wind in the three out legs and then a helpful push home after the turn.

Matt Robinson was with us again after his canicross adventures and led the club home in 16th place and first M50.  Malcolm Ritchie kept the vet theme going in 39th place and 10th M40 closely followed by Daryl Phillips (41st).  We then had a whole string of well placed category finishers – Steve Grant (4th M50), Molly Chilton (5th SF), Tracy Allan (1st F50), Alice Doggrell (8th SF), Rosey Mushens (3rd F50), Dave Salter (2nd M60), Bob Cox (4th F60), Hannah Walsh (21st SF), Tom Burgess (5th M60), Henrietta Anstey (12th F40), Helen Clark (14th F40), Maggie Salter (11th F50), Roger Brocklesby (11th M60), Robert Coleman (39th M50), Martha Wheeler (38th SF), Agnieszka Kaminska (22nd F40), Michelle Edgell (24th F40).  The provisional results are listed at http://www.racetecresults.com/Results.aspx?CId=61&RId=274 with a number of variations on the club name being used so be careful if you are using the filter on clubs.
