Great Individual and Team Results at the Tri-County Cross-Country

12 Dec

Bath University was not a place for the faint hearted as the Tri-County (Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire) took place on Sunday 10th December 2017 in falling snow after the morning had begun with howling winds and driving rain.

Proper Wintry Conditions

The stand out result has to be the Senior Ladies race where Catie O’DONOGHUE took her first title in 27.28 just one second clear of Emma Fisher of Wells City Harriers. Great backing up from Fiona MARKS (fifth in 28.00), Naomi AYLWIN (eighth in 28.44), Ellen HARRISON (sixteenth in 29.33) and Lucy BIRD (seventeenth on 30:55) saw the club take the team title with 30 points from Avon Valley Runners who scored 52. There were 50 finishers.

Senior Women Gold Medal Winners

In the Senior Men Avon Valley took team honours as the club failed to finish a team. Gary STANDINGER was our first man home in tenth place (39:18). Tony ROPER finished seventeenth in 40:40 one place ahead of Dan TITHERADGE (eighteenth in 40:51) with Andy DUNN twenty-ninth in 42:38 and Bill HULL thirty-first in 42:51. Andy was second in the M40 category for Avon. There were seventy-four finishers.

The first race of the day was the under-11 girls’ race which saw Niamh ROE finish twelfth in 11:06. Next up were the under-11 boys where Ronnie Wilmott (tenth in 8:51), Benjamin French (eleventh in  8:57) and Morgan CANDY (fifteenth in 9:37) all performed well.

In the Under-13 age group Molly THOMAS (fourth in 12:27) and Clementine HOULDEN (sixth in 12:29) both performed really well in a very competitive race. The Under-13 boys took the team award led home by Joseph HULL in ninth place (11:37). Behind him Ishmael BRADLEY (thirteenth in 11:54), Misha EVANS (sixteenth in 12:04) and Eoin O’HALLORAN (nineteenth in 12:13) completed the scoring team. They were well supported by Joshua LEWIS (twenty-second in 12:22), Amos KINGSTON (twenty-fifth in 12:29), Fred CUMMINS (twenty-eighth in 12:23), Will CHAPMAN (thirty-second in 13:08), Zachary ROE (forty-second in 14:45) and Luki BALLERO FFRENCH (forty-third in 15:04). There were 44 finishers of whom ten were from Bristol & West. As usual Ali Hurford was there supporting her training group.

In the Under-15 age group Alice BRIDGER MORALES finished fourth but gained the Avon Bronze medal in 15:24, with Grace CLARIDGE our only other runner in twenty-fifth place in 17:54. In the Under-15 Boys race Fred HAWKER was our first finisher in eighth place (13:56) and took the Avon bronze medal. Behind him Rufus THOMAS finished tenth in 14:10. With Steven KERFOOT in fourteenth place in 14:34 and Lewis ADAMSON in twenty-ninth place in 15:52 the club took the team title with Jay AKBAR finishing in thirty-first place in 16:15 backing the team up.

The Under-17 and Under-20 age groups were combined but even so there were only 14 in the ladies field and  30 in the men’s race with Nathan MARCHANT our sole representative across both races finishing twenty-first in 22:07.
