Club Athletes In Action at the Cardiff Indoor Grand Prix – Sunday 10th December 2017

12 Dec

The first Indoor Grand Prix of the Winter was held at the National Indoor Athletic Centre, Cardiff on Sunday 10th December 2017. Those who braved tricky road conditions to get there were certainly pleased that the event was indoors.

There were club representatives in the field with Andrea JESUDASON taking the honours in the women’s long jump with a longest jump of 5 metres 30 centimetres – just shading her indoor PB from BUCS 2014. Simon HAMMANN finished fourth in the Men’s Long Jump with a best jump of 6 metres 42 centimetres.

There were several sprinters in action with the best placed Mikkel BASSUE in third place in  the First 60 metre race in 6.55; Will KENNEDY was fifth in the same race stopping the clock at 7.00 exactly – just outside his PB of 6.98.

In Race Three Simon HAMMANN clocked 7.43 for 60 metres, with Ben TULLOCH clocking 7.41 for third and Simeon WYNNE 7.52 for fifth in Race 4. Mark ELLERY clocked 8.37 for sixth in Race 8.

In the 300 metre races Natalie JONES finished second in Ladies Race 1 in 44.17 followed home by Under 20 Nancy DINEEN who clocked 47.89.In the Men’s races, Dominic DAY and Joe SAFFER finished third and fourth respectively in Race 6 clocking 38.89 and 41.83. Dominic also competed in the 600 metres where he finished second in Race 2 in 1:25.15.

The longest races in the program were the 3,000 metres where seven club athletes competed. In Race 1 there was a win for Steve MITCHELL who clocked 8:08.99 behind him Mike WILSMORE was fourth in 8:17.33 with Jack MILLAR ninth in 8:37.89. Steve’s time was his fastest 3,000 metres since he set his PB back in 2014 – also at Cardiff.

In Race 3 Neil KENNEDY finished fifth in 9:27.02 just getting the better of Charlotte TAYLOR-GREEN who finished sixth in a PB of 9:29.01. Charlotte is hoping to improve on that as improvements in her 3,000 metres PB on the flat will surely  feed through to bring her 3,000 metre steeplechase time down.

In Race 4 two of our Masters were racing with Dave BEDWELL clocking 10:56.34 for sixth place with Sarah EVERITT eighth in the same race in 11:17.62 (a time she was not pleased with when asked at training on Monday night)
