Brecon Gwent League Cross-Country Proves a Challenge for the Under-13 Boys

13 Nov
This particular venue is on the whole remembered for the extreme weather we had to endure 4 years ago. Many athletes still talk about it.
However on this occasion it was the toilet situation that got the better of us. On arrival I was informed that only the portaloos in the car park were available for athletes. Perhaps we should consider having our very own toilet tent!
Eventually we all convened to start warming up, even though one of our new recruits was still to arrive. Unbeknown to me he had arrived in plenty of time but was in Swansea at the other Penlan Leisure Centre where the sat nav had taken him! So in case of any doubt for next year the post code for Brecon Penlan is LD3 9SR. Perhaps I should mention this to the league organizers as this mistake has happened before to one of our athletes.
The first race off was the under-11 boys and I was pleased that we fielded a full team thanks to new lad Sonny plus his mate Morgan who competed as a guest. Josh Lewis ran his best race ever to finish seventh out of a very large field.
He was backed up by Ronnie  and Rio who was also celebrating his birthday so there was plenty of cake afterwards.
Josh Lewis           7th
Ronnie Wilmott  43rd
Sonny Walsh       53rd
Rio Dutton          85th
Morgan Candy   86th

Nine under-13 lads took to the start line and I feel one or two were caught napping over the the early part of the course. However they did start to pull through later on but next time will need to go out with a bit more intent and so end up with the result they deserve. The exception to this was Jay Hunt who slightly over-cooked the first half of his race but he clearly means business and deserves ‘Athlete of the Day’ for his much improved performance.
There also was an encouraging run from Will Chapman in his first race wearing club colours.
Finally Henry Godfree never lets me down and stuck to his task not to be final finisher as he out sprinted the opposition at the end.
Joseph Hull 21st,  Ishmael Bradley 26th, Fred Cummins 31st, Jay Hunt 37th.
Ciaran Herniman 52nd, Amos Kingston 53rd ,Will Chapman 54th. Zachary Roe 73rd, Henry Godfree 82nd.

The next race is on Sunday 3rd December 2017 at Pembrey Park. Last year we had a very enjoyable day on the sand dunes so if we can all try and make this a priority. With our strongest teams out we can go far.
