Fortieth Anniversary Cribbs 5 Race raises over £1000 for Cancer Research

The Fortieth anniversary Cribbs 5 Race (formerly Friends/AXA/Sun Life 5 ) raised over £1000 for Cancer Research

The Cribbs 5 is a 5.5 mile road race organised for business teams but with open entry to individuals and this year again supported Cancer Research.  Our own Jon Goodland has been Race Director for many years and now runs the race on behalf of GWR and the North Bristol Running Group along with help from Bristol & West members.

The course is a really good mix of little and big uphill sections, a ‘how brave are you’ decent and a stretch of meandering country road with a new bend around every bend.  A route like this is not easy to marshal so a big thanks to Jon and his team for getting all 169 runners round safely.  Bristol & West members and friends who helped on the night include Michelle Edgell, Rob Coleman, Al Wilcox, Bruce Sellers, Alice Doggrell (who had the challenging ‘top of the hill’ crossing point), Rosey Mushens and Dom Hurford

There were many members of Bristol & West and our training groups running for their companies as well as some individual wearing club colours.

Starting with the men, at the front Matt Battensby (B&W and TLL LTP) won the race with Matt Robinson 5th and first V50 (B&W and Bank of Ireland), Greg Chance (B&W and UWE) 7th, Julian Bailey-Gard (Westbury and Coombe Dingle training group) 9th, Dan Nott (B&W and NBRG) 16th, Steve Grant (B&W) 18th and second V50, Steve Edge (NBRG, DAC Beachcroft and WISE training) 19th and third V50, Jason Bidwell (Frampton Harriers) 49th, Darren Stringer (B&W and Eldon Insurance) 52nd.

Louise Cronin (GWR, Nationwide and WISE training) was 40th, 3rd lady and 2nd VF40, Molly Chilton (B&W) was 45th and 4th lady with Nicola Oldroyd (B&W) 64th and 9th lady.
