A wet and windy day and a course that isn’t as flat as the original Cardiff 10k course meant that times weren’t as fast as people might have expected but there were still some good performances by club athletes at the Cardiff 10k on Sunday 3rd September 2017. First man home was Steve MITCHELL in fifth place in 30:31 followed by Tom MERSON in eleventh place in 31:02 and Dan STUDLEY who finished thirteenth in 31:24. Steve GOSS was well up the masters finishers (fifth V45) as he finished sixty-sixth in 35:23. Sean LEE (109th) was next man home in 37:19 followed by Michael NUTT who was 872nd in 48:37 and new member Bartosz WALENCIK who finished 1,104th in 49:22. The first three should provide a good nucleus for the forth-coming Midland and National 6-stage road relay men’s ‘A’ team.
The ladies were well represented by Fiona MARKS who finished ninth in a very strong ladies field in a PB of 35:59 to ease under the 36 minute barrier for the first time. Rhian JINNY-JONES finished 169th overall (and nineteenth lady) in 39.06 with Julia BELYAVIN 234th in 40:35 (31st lady and seventh in the F35 category).
