Emily Diamond Fifth in World Championship 400 metres heat

Emily Diamond finished fifth in the second Heat of the Women’s 400 metres in the World Championships (won by Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas in 50.97) in the London Stadium on Sunday 6th August 2017 in 52:20 and then had an agonising wait to see if she would qualify for the semi-finals as one of the six fastest losers as only the first three in each heat were guaranteed qualification through to the semi-finals. In the end she would have had to run 52 seconds or faster to have qualified but can now concentrate her efforts on the 4 x 400 metres relay – we wish her well and hope that the team can replicate their success at the Rio 2016 Olympics but if the heats of the 400 metres are anything to go by it will be a tough ask.
