26 Jul

It’s not long to go until this year’s Avon 5k “Club” Road Relay Championships, which are set to take place at the end of August. This will be year four for the event, with all profits going to Avon AA:

The event will again start in the flat and beautifully managed Cleeve sports and playing fields and is run on quiet country roads and footpaths in the Claverham and Cleeve area on a predominately flat course with one small climb.

On offer is FREE parking, toilets, and access to the Sinclair Pavilion (Cricket Club).   Plus, there is a bar which we expect to stay open well into the late afternoon, as it is Bank Holiday weekend!  There will also be Tea, Coffee, Squash, Cakes and Sandwiches  etc on offer.

The entry fee is £16 per Senior Men’s and Mixed Teams and £12 per Senior Ladies Team (£4 per person) with a percentage of the entry fee going towards the venue/facility hire as a “Thank you” donation to Cleeve Cricket Club with any/all surplus after costs ‘ALL’ to go to Avon Athletics.

Please just show up and ENTER ON THE DAY.  However, with early indications suggesting a larger participation than 2016 – to ensure we provide sufficient post run water and snacks, an indicator from you of how many teams you ‘think’ are attending, would be more than appreciated …

The organisers are more than receptive to a carnival / colourful atmosphere – so as last year please bring along your Club flags (so that we can line them up along the finishing straight) and all horns / hooters etc. are most welcome.   This race promises a relaxed atmosphere for those Clubs looking for a day out (so please bring your picnic blankets) and also represents the ideal warm up for any Club taking part in any forthcoming Road Relay events.

Naturally any offers from Clubs of marshaling support will be gratefully received.

If you are interested in competing for a club team please let Keith Brackstone, Chris Elson or Mike Down know well in advance so we can give the organisers a good idea as to how many teams the club will enter. (Please don’t enter teams yourself).
