Although numbers were down on the Open Meeting held earlier in the season there was added interest in the Open Meeting held at Kip Keino Athletic Stadium on Tuesday 18th July 2017 as a contingent of athletes from Botswana used the meeting as part of their build up for the London World Championships. Among their number was Amantle Montsho who is a former world and commonwealth champion over 400 metres and has a PB of 49.33 for the distance. In addition there were two male 400 metre runners with PBs in the 45 seconds.
One of the highlights of the night was the Women’s 200 metres which saw five Botswanan athletes battling it out with Amantle winning in 24.11. The night was concluded with a competitive 3,000 metres.
Our thanks go to the team of volunteers from within and outside of Bristol & West Athletic Club who make it possible to stage these events. Special mention must be made of Bev Barrett who chases up the officials to make sure we have adequate cover on the night: a thankless task.
We will have a thorough review of the format of these meetings before we decide on what the club will do in 2018.
