As already reported several of the club’s young athletes were selected for Avon Schools to compete in the English Schools Championships held at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on Saturday and Sunday 7th and 8th July 2017.
On the track it was a frustrating weekend as Jack RANDELL was disqualified in the Junior Boy’s 300 metres and Mikkel BASSUE pulled a ham-string running 10.97 in his heat of the Senior Boy’s 100 metres and was unable to take his place in the semi-final. Jess FRASER finished fourth in Heat Two of the Intermediate 300 metres in 41.34.
Club athletes had more success in the field where Anna LOUGHLIN finished 10th in the Intermediate Girls Hammer with a best throw of 49 metres 67 centimetres. In the Junior Girl’s Hammer Thema HENDRICKS threw 30 metres 83 centimetres for eleventh place.
There were several horizontal jumpers competing:
Sam BARRETT finished eleventh in the Senior Girl’s Triple Jump with a best jump of 11 metres 9 centimetres which was a good return to competition after a few weeks out with an ankle injury.
Kurt CAMERON finished eighth in the Senior Boy’s Long Jump with a personal best jump of 6 metres 56 centimetres.
Christian PESTELL was another to jump a PB with his 6 metres 12 centimetres placing him sixteenth in the Intermediate Boy’s Long Jump.
Tia JACKSON (and her coach) are likely to have been disappointed with Tia’s performance. Tia finished eleventh in the Intermediate Girl’s Long Jump; her best jump of 5 metres 26 centimetres falling exactly 50 centimetres short of her PB.
In the High Jump Charlotte MARTIN cleared 1 metre 57 centimetres (just 3 centimetres off her PB) when finishing eleventh in the Junior Girl’s competition.
Club Higher Competition athletes Ada’ora CHIGBO (North Somerset AC) and Tom GALE (Team Bath) both performed well in their competitions. Ada’ora took the runners-up position in the Senior Girl’s with her 1 metre 72 centimetre clearance losing out on count back to Lillie Franks. Tom GALE continued his excellent season with a PB of 2 metres 22 centimetres seeing him well clear of the field to collect gold in the Senior Boy’s event.
Another Higher Competition Athlete to perform well was Yvette WESTWOOD (Yate & District AC) who finished fourth in the Senior Girl’s 200 metres in 24.80 having won her heat in 24.68.
Well done to all of you.
