Lucy Bryan Headlines Day One of the UK Trials – Saturday 1st July 2017

Lucy BRYAN’S silver medal with a season’s best outdoor clearance of 4 metres 35 centimetres was the performance of the day at Day One of the UK Championships and World Championship Trials at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. Favourite Holly Bradshaw won gold with a clearance of 4 metres 45 centimetres but Lucy’s was a great performance coming shortly after her win in the Under-23 age group saw her selected for the European Junior Championships at the event.

Another performance that really stood out was Emily DIAMOND’S win in heat One of the 400 metres and her winning time of 52.35 was the fastest qualifying time and sets her up with a good lane draw for today’s final.

Other club athletes in action on Day One were:

Hannah WILLIAMS who was sixth in Heat 1 on the Women’s 100 metres in 12.29 and Bethan WAKEFIELD who was fifth in Heat 4 in 12.17.

Chris STONE finished fourth in Heat 1 of the Men’s 100 metres in 10.71.

Steve MITCHELL was a DNF in the Men’s 1,500 metres and we will get the back story to that in due course.

The club wishes everyone the best of luck in today’s finals.
