Bristol & West Athletic Club Comfortable Winners of the Aztec West Mob Match

After 8 scoring matches in the 2016/2017 Aztec West Fast 5k Series the ninth race was a Mob Match held at Aztec West over the usual course on Tuesday 27th June 2017 and provided the opportunity to award the series prizes. Bristol & West Athletic Club were clear winners of the Mob match with their twenty runners scoring 871 points – thankful in no small measure to a great turn-out from the Ladies Section of the club. Runners-up were Westbury Harriers who scored 2,213 points and were the only other club to field more than 20 runners in a field of 181. Cheltenham Harriers finished third with 2,353 points just ahead of Southville who scored 2,360 points. The full mob match result was as follows:

In the individual race Phil Beastall of Cheltenham Harriers hit the front early on and was a clear winner in 14:56. Phil RADFORD (Bristol & West Athletic Club) showed that his recent good form is continuing and he chased hard to finish second in 15:14 – a new PB for 5k on the road. Third place went to Andy Chambers who is currently unattached but who is a former Bristol & West member in 15:38.

In the Ladies race Fiona MARKS set out with intent clocking a 5:25 first mile but faded to finish in 17:39 to just hold off Helen NEWBERRY also from Bristol & West who was given the same time of 17:39 in the official results for a PB. In third place in a big PB was Rhian JINNY-JONES in 18:30 to secure a clean sweep of the Ladies podium by Bristol & West.

This was the last race of the third series at Aztec West and for those of you interested in such things a list of the race winners to date is below.

Once again a big thank you to Race Director Roger Brocklesby and his team of volunteers for staging a successful race, without their support it would be impossible to stage this popular series. [Our statistician Pete Davenport tells us that 811 different athletes competed in this year’s series of races.] We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday 26th September 2017 for the first race in the 2017/2018 series.
