Lucy BRYAN took the gold medal in the Under-23 Pole Vault at the Under-23 and Under-20 Championships at Bedford on 17th and 18th June 2017 with a best clearance at 4 metres 20 centimetres; some 20 centimetres below her season’s best but as already reported good enough to secure her place in the British Team for the European Under-23 Championships.
Also selected was Chris STONE who had a busy weekend finishing first in Heat 1 of the 100 metres in 10.50 before finishing third in Semi-Final 2 in 10.56. Chris then ran the 200 metres finishing second in the final in 21.01 after winning his semi in 21.00 and his heat in 21.16. As reported these performances have secured him a spot on the 4 x 100 metres relay team for the European Championships.
Also in action in the 200 metres was Freddie OWSLEY who ran a windy 21.90 in his heat and then finished seventh in his semi-final in 21.93. Freddie was also in action in the 400 metres where he finished third in Heat 1 in 48.43. Mark COTTAM finished fourth in his heat of the 400 metres in 49.69.
In the 5,000 metres Jack MILLAR finished sixth in a 15:00.46 PB but must surely have been frustrated not to break the 15 minute barrier.
In the High Jump Higher Competition athlete Tom GALE (Team Bath) took the honours in the Under-20 event with a best clearance of 2 metres 18 centimetres just 4 centimetres shy of his PB of 2 metres 22 centimetres. Jamie ANDERSON finished seventh in the same event clearing 1 metre 93 centimetres.
Also in the Under-20 age group higher competition athlete Yvette WESTWOOD (Yate & District AC) finished seventh in the final of the 100 metres in 12.03 after placing third in er semi in 11.96 and winning Heat 4 in 11.86. Yvette then ran 24.79 to finish third in Heat 2 of the 200 metres.
