|Jarlath MCKENNA shaved two seconds off his 5k road PB when winning the race for the second time on Tuesday 28th March 2017 in 15:13. His time was 15 seconds faster than his winning time in February 2017 and probably reflects the improved conditions on the night compared with last month’s race. Early leader Jack MILLAR who led the field out with a 4:43 first mile finished runner-up in 15:19. Brett Halliwell of Stroud & District finished third in 15:23.
The club’s recent successes at the Midland Road Relays meant there was a real battle on to stake claims for ‘A’ team places for the National Road Relay and Luke GRENFELL-SHAW finished seventh in 15:49, closely followed by David AWDE (eighth in 15:52), Maciej BIALOGONSKI (ninth in 16:02) and Robbie STEWART (tenth in 16:06).
Ruth Barnes of Avon Valley Runners was first lady home to take her fifth win in the event and her time of 16:38 equalled Kate MALTBY’s (formerly Hulls) course record. Georgina Schwiening (Cambridge & Coleridge) was runner-up in 17:18 with Rebecca AWDE (Bristol & West) third in 18:17.
Aidan Noble of Westbury Harriers was first under-17 Man in 16:34 while Mark James of Cheltenham & County Harriers was first M40 in 16:26. Jeremy Mower of Gloucester AC was first M50 in 17:35 with Dave BEDWELL of Bristol & West AC the first M60 in 19:12.
Annie Testar of Stroud & District AC was first W17 in 19:00 (seventh lady overall) with Ruth Barnes the first W35 as well as ladies race winner. Sarah Everitt was first F45 in 18:54 while Kate Sackett of Cirencester AC took W55 honours in 21:20.
