What a disappointing day this was for Bristol & West young athletes where in almost 100 races we only showed with one track competitor (who also Long Jumped) and one thrower.
Anna LOUGHLIN dominated the Under-17 women’s Shot Put to take the Gold Medal with a throw (put) of 10.12 metres and move herself up to fourth on the Club all time indoor list. This was a little shy of her outdoor best of 11.01 metres but then things are different for indoor competition and it does show that she is well on the way to another great season for the Club in 2017. After all her main event then will be again the Hammer Throw.
Our track competitor was under-13 girl Lily BAILEY who used her long legs to great effect to take the 200 metres Gold Medal in dominating fashion in 30.33 seconds. That is the second best ever on our Club indoor Under-13 Ranking List behind the formidable Khiaaama KOFI but the way she dominated the race was a revelation showing a massive lead over the Silver Medal competitor. Lily also came away with a superb Silver Medal in the Long Jump where she achieved a great leap of 3.94 metres.
Lily was delighted to go to the magnificent facility at Cardiff, enjoy fierce competition and come away with South West Championship Medals. What more encouragement does an under-13 aspiring athlete want than this? She will be back for the second part of these Championships on 8th January 2017 when we hope she is supported by a whole host of B&W competitors who are also determined to show their strength and speed to the rest of the South West.
