The club trio of Clare JOLLIFFE, Sarah EVERITT and Penny GARDINER took the gold medals at the Masters F45 Cross-Country Relays at Long Eaton on Saturday 19th November 2016. Recent Masters International winner Clare Elms of Dulwich Runners took the lead on the first leg when clocking 11:09. Clare JOLLIFFE chased her hard in second place to clock 11:43 which was second fastest leg of the day. On leg two Sarah EVERITT clocked 11:50 to move the club ladies into the lead – Sarah’s time was the third equal fastest of the day. On Leg 3 Penny GARDINER saw her lead closed but remained well clear as she ran the second fastest on her leg, 12:44, to bring the team home 37 seconds clear of Dulwich Runners in 36:17. Third placers Penistone Footpath Runners were over three minutes behind.
In the M55 category the Men’s team finished fourth. Mark SCRUTTON ran 11:43 on the first leg to finish fourth, a position which Dave GAPPER maintained with an 11:43 clocking. A time of 12:16 from Pete MOUNTAIN on Leg 3 saw the team into a medal position as Pete finished third. On the last leg Jerry HOGAN clocked 11:28 for the fastest leg from a club athlete but it wasn’t enough to hold onto third place as he brought the team home fourth.
Well done to all our Masters.
