Jarlath MCKENNA was the stand-out individual in the Senior Age Groups at the Gwent League on Sunday 16th October 2016 at Bridgend when he finished in an outstanding second place in the Senior Men’s race clocking 33:22 for the 10.1 kilometre course just seven seconds behind the winner from Cardiff Athletic Club. Matt BATTENSBY, watched by wife and young baby, was next home in thirty-first place in 36:35 just in front of Rob STEWART (33rd in 36:38). Otis MONDIR has been running 800 metres for the club this summer and his first lap showed his lack of cross-country experience in recent years – still he stuck to his task to finish eighty-ninth in 39:14. Richard LOWE finished 100th in 39:38 to complete the ‘B’ team.

Alison HURFORD in ninetieth place in 31:50 completed the scoring ‘B’ team.

Sarah STEWART was next home in ninety-first in 32:00 as the Club ladies fielded a full ‘C’ team. Fleur COCKLEY was disappointed with her run but 120th in  33:09 still earned 195 team points. Latife COMLEK finished 124th in 33:17 with Hannah DYER in 148th place in 34:19 and Emma WITHERS in 152nd in 34:27 completing the ‘C’ team.

Chris BURREN finished 182nd in 35:39 as the club finished sixteen athletes in a field of 305 finishers.

The ‘A’ team were just two points behind Cardiff overall but were comfortably first ‘B’ Team and first ‘C’ Team. A few more of our leading ladies at the next fixture should see the club re-establish itself at the front of the Ladies Competition.
