Bristol Half-Marathon – Early Results – Sunday 25th September 2016

Tom MERSON (second in 68:41), Jarlath MCKENNA (fourth in 69:16) and Peter Le Grice (fifth in 70:19) stamped the club’s mark on the major half-marathon in the region on a wet and blustery Sunday 25th September 2016. They were followed home by Jenny SPINK who finished fifteenth overall in 74:58 and was a clear winner of the ladies race by almost 4 minutes from Clara Evans. Lucy MACALISTER was fourth lady (55th overall) in 80:02 with Fiona MARKS (90th overall) having a great PB in eighth place in the ladies race in 82:48. With three in five in the men’s race and three in eight in the ladies the club should have sown up the team event.

Sean LEDGER, who has been training with Keith BRACKSTONE’S group and has recently joined us as a second claim member, finished nineteenth in 75:22. Behind him Andy COOKE (40th in 78:41) and Neville GASCOIGNE (41st in 78:41) were next home for the club. Daryl PHILLIPS finished seventy-fifth in a PB in 81:33; next was Anthony HALL in 83:26 in ninety-sixth place. Between them former club member Hannah ALDERSON finished ninety-fifth in 83:06. Peter GANDON just missed out on the top 100 finishing 101st in 83:12; another athlete running a PB. Ryan DAY finished 147th in 85:44 to set a new PB, while Charlie PANTLIN ran 86:34 for 184th just in front of Bill HULL who finished 186th in 86:18 for a new PB.

Olivia SADLER took a gentle run round after all her stateside track exploits over the last few years to finish 189th in 87:04. We hope this has given Olivia motivation to get back into running even if it doesn’t involve a return to top class 1,500 metres just yet. Another former member was Rosemary HURFORD who finished 236th in 88:47.  Mark EDWARDS ran round in 258th place in 88:57 but had a flag to show that he was pacing people for sub-1 hour 30 minutes – nice flag Mark!

Gordon EVERETT was another to set a PB finishing 332nd in 90:47; Mike ROBERTS wasn’t too far behind Gordon in  348th place in 91:37. Peter WANG, one of Chris Elson’s group at WISE, finished in 421st place in 92:13 with Alice DOGGRELL making the top 500 in 498th place in 94:20. Tanya CHOWDHURY was next home in 518th place in 95:02. According to the results Maciej BIALOGONSKI finished 549th in 87:49 – not sure what was going on here as his chip time is about 8 minutes quicker than those around him! After his recent accident perhaps he decided to only push the last 10K?

Rob BROWN finished in 816th place in 98:51; Paul NOYCE was 1,027th in 1:42:23, Mark GRACE was 1,063rd in 1:42:39 and Dave ENGLEDEW finished in 1,217th place in 1:43:50; Dave was another who was acting as a pacemaker in his case for those targeting 1 hour 45 minutes. Daniel MORGAN finished in 1,375th place in 1:46:18 and Fleur COCKLEY was 1,384th in 1:46:39. Ali VAZ ran 1:48:50 for 1,455th and Nick WHITE in 1,487 place (1:40:17 – so another who started well back in the field was 9 minutes faster than those around him finishing just inside the first 1,500.)

  1. Love the new newsletter format: it was definitely worth all the hard work that must have been put into getting it up and running. Talking of running, absolutely brilliant runs from so many club members – huge well done to everyone, what a great turn out!
