‘Scintillating’ and ‘Stellar’ were just two of the descriptions used by TV commentators to describe Emily DIAMOND’s speedy third leg which lifted the Great Britain Women’s 4 x 400 metres relay team back into contention for a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics. After a solid start from Eilidh Doyle, Anyika Anuora paid the price for a fast first 200 metres and faded to sixth place before Emily’s excellent leg lifted the team back into third spot. After being closed by the chasing pack early on Christine Ohuruogu used all her strength and experience to draw clear in the home straight and give the GB quartet a well deserved bronze medal and set up an emotional appearance on the podium for Emily. Well done Emily everyone at the club is immensely proud of you and we hope to see you and your medal at Whitehall soon.
