There was another fine performance by the Under-11 boys and girls Quad kids teams for Match 2 of the Avon League in Gloucester on SUnday 31st July 2016.
The boys went one better than their second place in the first match by taking advantage of a depleted Team Bath squad. The new boys, JOSH LEWIS and HARRY HUSSEY were on par with the athletes they had replaced and in fact HARRY had the fourth highest score of the day (218 points). ETHAN GILL once again demonstrated his high quality in the sprints and standing Long jump (11.2 seconds and 2.06 metres respectively) but this was matched by ELLIS LONGFORD in the 600 metres and Standing Long jump (2 minutes 10 seconds and 2.01 metres respectively). This is a magnificent turn around for the boys who had a difficulty raising a team last year.
The girls again finished second in this match behind Yate & District. With the exception of TAMARA JACKSON, the team was a completely different one than the team that competed earlier in the month. TAMARA achieved 200 points for the first time (201) which was the second highest score of the day, only 2 points off the top score. Her strongest events were the 75 metres and Standing long jump, where she had the highest scores of the day ( 11.2 for the 75 metres and 1.96 metres for standing long jump). ABENA ASOMANI, TANAYA GHOSH and DOLSHAYE BENNETT performed really well to snatch second place by 30 points.
MAXWELL JACKSON (boys) and ARIANNE HUNTER (girls) also did well as non- scoring members of the team, but I am sure they would have gained from a competitive experience that will help them going forward.
The next Quad kids event will be held on 21st August 2016 at Yate.
