Club Results From Avon League – Gloucester -Sunday 31st July 2016

03 Aug

As well as the Quadkids under-11 teams doing well so too did the under-13 girls. In finishing a very close second on the day to North Somerset they head the league table with 13 match points ahead of Team Bath 11, North Somerset 10, Forest of Dean 9 with Yate, Gloucester and Bitton trailing with 7, 4 and 1 respectively. A good turnout for the next two meetings will secure the age group trophy in September.

The best of the other age groups was the under-15 boys who are provisionally third.

In many respects the question for the older age groups is “Where were you?”. I cannot recall no senior men before at an Avon League meeting. I know we are in the holiday season with members all over the place but the invitation is long standing and newer members especially to try out some track & field events in the most welcoming and easy situation. The standard is very mixed and I cannot imagine anyone new to track events being disappointed. Well maybe if it pours with rain.

Overall the club finished sixth out of seven clubs which could be described as pathetic. We really are better than that but it may take YOU to turn out and give it a go. Cast nervousness and apprehension aside and give it a go. Sundays 21st August 2016 and 11th September 2016, both at Yate, are the remaining fixtures.

I must add and emphasise congratulations to all who did compete at Gloucester. Well done and also appreciation to the club officials and helpers who fulfilled our officiating responsibilities.
