Club Performances at the Avon Schools Championships – Saturday 14th June 2014

It was a club one, two, three in the Minor Girls 100 metres with Tia JACKSON (13.6), Charlotte ROBERTS (14.5) and Libby HAYETT (14.9) filling the first three places. Charlotte also won the Minor Girls high jump with a clearance at 1 metre 41 centimetres. Katie JONES was an excellent third in a very competitive 800 metres clocking 2:27.7 – big sister Maria better watch out!

In the Junior Girls’ age group Daniela PRENDERGAST was second in the 100 metres in 13.4 with Issy GRIFFITHS fifth in 13.6. Daniela was also second in the 200 metres where she clocked 28.1. Isabella PARSELLE was fourth in a very close race in 28.2.

Isabella was also sixth in the 800 metres in 2:33.1 just in front of Nancy DINEEN who clocked 2:34.4. Eloise BROWNE w\as second in the 1,500 metres in 5:06.7. Nicola FORTUNE finished second in the 75 metre hurdles in 13.10. In the field Catherine CLAYTON scored a discus/hammer double with 28 metres 85 centimetres in the discus and 32 metres 34 centimetres in the hammer. A win and the England Schools selection standard should see her competing in the English Schools.

Numbers of competitors in the Intermediate Girls were low but there were two outstanding performances from club athletes with Ella FALK winning the 300 metres in 41.3 (England Schools standard) and Rownita MARSTON winning the shot with a throw of 12 metres 89 centimetres. Sam BARRETT had a busy afternoon as she was second in the 80 metre hurdles in 14.00, placed third in the high jump with a best clearance of 1 metre 55 centimetres and was also fourth in the long jump with a longest jump of 4 metres 37 centimetres.

There were only eleven athletes in the whole Senior Girls competition of which three were Bristol & West. Jo TAYLOR ran a solo 2:26.9 in the 800 metres, Yemma SONGU finished second in the 100 metres in 13.00 and Maria JONES was third in the 400 metres in 63.80.

In the Minor Boys events Oliver PITT was fourth in the 100 metres in 14.00, Stan HARDING-HILL was third in the 800 metres in 2:29.2 and Lewis OBERHANSI finished fifth in the high jump with a clearance at 1 metre 30 centimetres.

In the Junior Boys the club had its strongest showing with five individual winners. On the track Will HINES won the 100 metres in 12.2, Bruce DE SILVERIA won the 200 metres in 24.4, Rueben WILMSHURST won the 800 metres in 2:05.0 (an English Schools standard) and Hugh SADLER won the 1,500 in 4:32.1 in a close finish with Ben Cureton from North Somerset. In the field Kurt CAMERON won the pole vault with a clearance at 3 metres 25 centimetres, which was an English Schools qualifying height. Kurt also finished third in the javelin with a throw of 34 metres 50 centimetres. Anton MILLS was third in the 800 metres in 2:07.8.

In the Intermediate Boys age group Tomas GOODMAN finished third in the 100 metres in 11.80 and won the 400 metres in 51.70. Henry COCHRANE won the 800 metres in 2:05.6 with Oliver HINES fifth in the same race in 2:14.3. In the 1,500 metres Harry LEEMING was second in 4:22.7 with Jack FLOWERS fifth in 4:55.3. Lucas REGAZZO finished second in the 400 metre hurdles in 62.00 and second in the high jump with a clearance at 1 metre 70 centimetres. Jonny SHINE won the pole vault with a clearance at 2 metres 75 centimetres.  

There were only 8 competitors across all the Senior Boys events and with Freddie OWSLEY competing in the Midland Championships there was no club representation at all!
