Eight young athletes from the club competed in the England Schools Cross-Country at Donnington Park on Saturday 15th March 2014 – an event which is definitely the highlight of the Schools’ Winter Programme. Stand-out result of the day was Anton Mills’ thirty-fourth place in the Junior Boys race. Anton has produced some good results of late in local races and his time of 15.09 saw him 30 seconds off a top ten finish. After a recent growth spurt Anton probably still needs time for his muscles to catch up with his new found height but when they do I am sure he will build on this year’s success when he is top of the under-15 age group next year and moves into the Intermediate Boy’s age group in schools competitions. He led Avon to eighth place in the team competition and had Hugh Sadler finished – he fell early on – a higher team position would surely have been on the cards. In the top age group Miles Chandler finished fifty-eighth in the Senior Boys race clocking 25.26 while Jack Millar finished ninety-seventh in 25.59. In the Intermediate Boys race Henry Cochrane finished 145th in 21.33 while Harry Leeming finished 166th in 21.31.
In the Senior Girls Race Miranda Sadler finished seventy-second in 17.00, while in the Junior Girls race Isobel Leeming was 247th in 12.04.
These results have been identified by a trawl through Athletics Weekly – so if I have missed anyone my apologies. If anyone was there and can add some additional information that would be great.
