It has been great to see the phenomenon that is parkrun going from strength to strength in South Gloucestershire.
October 2012: zero parkrunners at zero parkruns in South Gloucestershire
8th March 2014, 9am: over 400 parkrunners at three parkruns in South Gloucestershire
And now it has reached the ears of the Chair of South Gloucestershire Council, who will be visiting all three parkruns in South Gloucestershire on 29th March 2014. Councillor Ian Boulton will send the Little Stoke parkrunners on their way, cheer on Chipping Sodbury parkrunners in midfield and meet the final finishers at Pomphrey Hill parkrun. Brian Gardiner’s challenge is to chauffeur Ian around all three parkruns in about 45 minutes without breaking any speed limits!
Councillor Boulton would be very grateful if you would kindly consider making a donation to his charities: Bristol Aero Collection and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit | North Bristol NHS Trust by visiting www.justgiving.com/chairscharity.
Meanwhile, South Gloucestershire are trying to encourage as many new parkrunners as possible to register for 29th March 2014 in support of the Chair’s charities. Will you be running your first parkrun on 29th March or could you introduce a newcomer on 29th March 2014?
All you have to do is visit events | parkrun UK, find Chipping Sodbury, Little Stoke or Pomphrey Hill and complete the very short registration form. You need do this only once in your life and it’s FREE. Print your bar code; take it along to any parkrun at 9AM on any Saturday morning. And away you go!
Would you share your story with us? We’d love to hear about it!
Best wishes – and good luck on 29th March!
