Youth Development League (Upper Age Group) – Information for 2014

The Youth Development League (YDL) is the League which provides competition for under-17 and under-20 athletes (the Upper Age Group (UAG)).

Bristol & West members compete in a Composite team known as “Team Avon”. This arrangement has proved to be a very successful cooperation with the other local clubs: North Somerset AC, Mendip AC, Team Bath AC and Yate & District AC.

The YDL-UAG arrangement emerged from the National Junior League and there were some teething problems last year which have been addressed. In 2014 there will be two places in the Under-17 track events whereas last year it was only one. The Under-17 field events remain at one competitor for 2014. Under- 20s continue with two for both track and field events.

The “Team Avon” competes in the Midland Premier Division which provides athletes with the highest level of League competition appropriate to their age group. The other clubs in this division are: Birchfield Harriers, Nottingham AC, Rugby & Northampton, Swansea and Team Oxfordshire.

It is hoped that this year will see an increased representation in the team from Bristol & West AC members. Athletes in the appropriate age groups are asked to check out the dates and how they fit within their competition programme. Ultimately athletes can only do their best on the day and in team competitions the team is better off with someone rather than no one. Competition in the YDL-UAG may be the stepping stone to encourage progress.

In order to compete in the team you are required to register with either Sandra Woodman (Yate and District AC) or Rachael Fisher (North Somerset AC) who are respectively the male and female team managers. THIS IS A MUST and has to be done in advance.
