Avon schools youngsters proved far too strong for South-West opposition by winning all four team titles at the South-West Sportshall Championships at Torbay Leisure Centre. They retained their 2013 titles in style, making it now 3 years running in winning all 4 team titles.

The Under-13 boys’ team won 10 of 12 events with a great all round performance winning all the relay events for the first time. Quentin Querl (Priory), Jacub Pazdan (St. Bedes) and Dan Brooks (Downend) all took 3 titles in individual and relay events.

Quentin had to fight off team mate Kwame Hartley (St. Bedes) in the 2 lap just winning a great race by one tenth of a second. He also won the Triple Jump with a last round jump of 7 metres 33 centimetres.

It was the same in the 4 lap where Dan Brooks (Downend) had a great race with colleague Bruce de Silveira (Fairfield) to again win by one tenth. Interestingly the two then took the top two places in the Vertical Jump and then combined to win the 8 lap paarlauf.

Jacub recorded a fantastic 2 metres 54 centimetre jump in the Long Jump to win and then 2 great legs in the 4 x 1 lap and Obstacle relay to help the teams to two wins.

In the 6 lap Owen Dudman (Beechen Cliff) ran a great race despite injury to take second place ahead of Fred North who took third overall despite winning his heat.

The Under-13 Girls were equally outstanding winning all the relays and taking another three event titles.

Winning three events was the talented Emma Bakare (Backwell) who after a shock in the heats upped her game to blitz the 2 lap event in 22.3  and record a championship best in the Triple Jump with 7 metres 52 centimetres.

Nina Nemi retained her vertical jump title from last year with 62 centimetres and almost doubled up in the 4 lap just getting caught on the line, but with Sophie Parker (Backwell) won the 8 lap paarlauf. Sophie was also a double winner recording 90 speed bounces whilst school colleague Caroline Walder was just behind in second place with a fantastic 87.

Mention must also be made of Year 7 students Charlotte Roberts (Colston Girls) (Third in the Triple Jump with 6 metres 73 centimetres) and Tia Jackson (Downend) who was second in the Long Jump.

The Under-15 competition also saw two team wins with the individual all rounder competition was won by Alfie Light (Backwell) with Alex Crofts (Sidcot) in second place, whilst the Girls saw a magnificent win for Adaora Chigbo (BGS).

The boy’s team also included Declan Walters and Mike Bakare (Backwell) and Harvey Flower(Nailsea) and Aaron Realizo and Gabriel Dos Santos (St. Bernadette’s). The Girls team included Emma Warrington, Esther Leong (Backwell), Gabriel da Silva(Colston Girls), Abi Roach (Churchill), Sofia Andersen (Gordano) and Rosie Harris (KLB)

A great day with fantastic support from a wonderful group of parents and excellent team spirit with the Under-15 and Under-13 teams supporting each other brilliantly.
