Ashton Court and Little Stoke parkruns – Saturday 15th February 2014

After a period of fairly inclement weather, prospects looked quite promising prior to the start at Ashton Court. The sun was just coming out and the start/finish area was sheltered from a stiff breeze. However this did not last and the parkrun set off just after the wind had got up and a heavy downpour was just starting.

The conditions certainly had a detrimental effect on performances with only Nick Brenchley recording a PB on his second visit to Ashton Court and his first run since June 2011.

Despite the weather, the Bristol and West presence was maintained, with a total of twenty-nine runners out of a field of 174.

Robert Stewart was the first finisher, on his third appearance, after finishing second on the two previous occasions. There were an impressive number of Age Category winners with Robert Stewart, Nick Brenchley and Stuart O’Connell being successful. The women did even better, dominating all categories from SW30-34 to VW55-59. Marie Berryman, Tanya Chowdhury, Claire Sapwell, Jane Colman, Tracy Allan and Sue Campbell took the honours.

This brings us onto the Performance of the Week. After careful consideration this is awarded to Tracy Allan who had the leading top Age Grade ranking in the field with a score of 76.14%. This follows her impressive performances last week in the Gwent League at Brecon and in the Bath Skyline 10k the following day.

At Little Stoke, the attendance has falenl away to 162 from a peak of 262 two weeks ago. This week there were nine runners from Bristol & West. Mark Burley was the leading representative from the club finishing in twelfth position. Will Windell, Jonathan Goodland, Graham Crump and Angie Hobbs were all first in their Age Categories.

On the tourist trail, Emma Bowers made a reappearance at Curl Curl in Sydney and is no doubt envious of Rich Kenington who rediscovered the many and varied delights of Yorkshire at Sewerby near Bridlington.

Next week on 22nd February 2014, the inaugural Chipping Sodbury parkrun will take place and the following week on 1st March 2014 the Pomphrey Hill park run will start. Full details are on the parkrun website.

Results for these parkruns will be included in this report, but if anyone goes to more exotic places such as Barrow-in Furness or Barnsley, please inform Roger Brocklesby on roger.brocklesby@btopenworld.com.

Finally congratulations to Geoff Keogh, from all the Bristol &West parkrunners, on completing his fiftieth run despite his duties as Race Director for the past three years.
