Alison Hurford’s View of the Midland Under-13 Boy’s Championships

27 Jan
The day did not get off to a great start .With only 30 minutes before the start I discovered Harry had been missed off the entry list so had no number and to top it all Robert had already lost his chip before even putting it on. So Harry ran as Dan who could not be there and just as I was negotiating with the results team to get a new chip for Robert at a cost of £7 all was sorted and Robert had found the chip inside the bottom of his joggers. So four lads made the start line with numbers and chips in place.
I must give full marks to Stan and Nathan who attacked the race from the gun. They are both so full of confidence from their recent run at the Avon schools. Their finishing positions of Stan 37 and Nathan 41 were well deserved results.
Further back in the field Harry was feeling the effects of travel sickness and falling in the famous ditch did not help matters. However with true team spirit he kept going all the way. Robert and I had an agreement that he would not come last and this was to be the case. He kept going running strongly into the finish holding off a lad twice his size.
The team finished 14th and a good time was had by all.
Stan Harding Hill 37
Nathan Merchant 41
