Steve Mitchell, who is now based in Cardiff where he is studying for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, concluded his 2013 racing campaign with a win in the famous Nos Galan Race (now 5k on the road) on Tuesday 31st December 2013. Steve was always well to the fore and won by 7 seconds clocking 14:39. Now coached by James Thie, he finished in front of fellow ‘Team Thie’ athletes, Iuean Thomas (14:46) and Josh Griffiths (14:53). What with Rich Peters’ win at Clevedon and Dan Studley’s sub-30 minute clocking at Ribble Valley the year has ended on a high for the club’s senior men on the road – not bad when you consider that all three athletes are actually middle distance specialists. Obviously they are all laying a good endurance base ready for the coming summer. Mike Down is already talking about the potential of this year’s 12-stage road relay team.
