Ashton Court and Little Stoke parkruns – Saturday 28th December 2013

The mornings are now getting longer. This wasn’t apparent at 8am on Saturday but half an hour later the sun was out, the temperature was rising and the breeze had dropped. 173 runners turned out at Ashton Court, of whom twenty-seven came from Bristol & West.

Probably due to club members not wishing to get their new Christmas running shoes dirty there were no PBs, as runners avoided the puddles and mud on the course.

Jarlath McKenna was the first home in a time of 17:31, the sixth time he has been first finisher at Ashton Court. Robert Stewart on his Ashton Court debut was second.

Robert Stewart, Stuart O’Connell, Gary Jennings, Marie Berryman, Tanya Chowdhury, Henrietta Anstey, Emma Withers, Jennifer Owsley and Otto Kingston were all first finishers in their respective Age Grades.

Well done to the other first timer, Paul Taylor –Morris, who has progressed from being virtually a non-runner when he started at Whitehall to achieving a time of under thirty minutes on the Ashton Court hill.

Performance of the Week goes to Whitehall and Ashton Court stalwart Martin Riddiford running his fifteenth parkrun out of a possible sixteen.

There were only four club runners at Little Stoke, with an outstanding performance from Maria Jones who was first lady and beat her previous PB by 41 seconds.

On New Year’s Day there is a double helping of parkrun. Little Stoke will start at 9.00am and Ashton Court will start at 10.30am.Therefore it will be possible to run both or just the one.

Finally congratulations to Vanessa Redmond who ran her fiftieth parkrun on Saturday. Belated congratulations are due to Marie Berryman who completed her fiftieth run last week.

Other club members were also active in parkruns further afield with Peter Mountain in the Sheffield Hallam parkrun currently the furthest afield that I am aware of.
