Firstly, I must not only send mine, but everyone involved in the Club our very best wishes to Roger, who by now should be on his way to a full and speedy recovery following his operation this week. I “do” hope he is back quickly at the Court to take back this onerous task.
A consistent number of 28 Bristol & West runners competed in the 130th Ashton Court parkrun, and were greeted by one of those absolutely fantastic autumn mornings, cool, crisp, still, hardly a breath of wind to be found, the autumnal colours still glowing in soft sunlight.
Anyway, enough of that stuff, on with the running, surely a morning which MUST inspire a plethora of PBs, and the crowd were certainly not disappointed, main highlights as below:-
Firstly to the VOLUNTEERS, without whom the event could not be run; Alison Engledew, Karen Watson, Debbie Riddiford, Helen Cooper and Colin Traer.
Now the running bit,
1) Pride of place this week goes to Steven Swan who was first club finisher in the event in ninth place in 19.06.
2) Pete Mountain who in 19.40 came in 19 and was First Vet in the VM 55-59 age group.
3) Stuart O’Connell, (31) home in 20.13 and was Second in the JM 15-19 group.
4) Marie Berryman, (43) getting stronger each week and Second SW 30-34 age group, in a time of 20.42.
5) Garry Jennings, (46) Second VM 55-59 in a time of 20.47.
6) Tanya Chowdhury, (83) Second VW 35-39 in a time of 22.42.
7) Henrietta Anstey, (117) First VW 40-44 in a time of 24.06.
Now the good bits, a total of five PBs were recorded this week:-
1) Dave Engledew, (25) in a time of 20.04 a new PB by two seconds, and his first since Sept 2011, parkrun event number 69.
2) Sarah Everitt, (37) in the form of her life knocked five seconds off her PB and this was her first PB since 22/6/2013, recording 20.13.
3) Cecilia Browne, (150) in a time of 25.40 and a new PB by five seconds, making it her second PB in consecutive weeks.
4) Vanessa Redmond, (185), not content with a new Pomphrey PB this week and more wine, with the help of a pacemaker took another nine seconds off her PB, finishing in 27.26 This was her second PB in her last two Ashton Court runs.
After much deliberation I have awarded this weeks “Performance of the Week” award to Dave Engledew, who more often than not can be seen pace-making someone round the delights of AC, but obviously decided to give it a real bash this week and was well rewarded. He has also worked extremely hard to regain full fitness following his illness
Finished, and my great thanks to Rich Kennington for all the donkey work in compiling this weeks stats.
Paul Burgess.
Oh yes, sorry, forgot to mention your correspondent broke for the first time the sub 27.00 barrier; knocking sixteen seconds off his previous PB to finish in 26.48, his fourth PB in his last six AC runs. Strangely this week, no beer was consumed by him the night before!!!
Meanwhile at Little Stoke Tom Morris was 2nd home & Graham Crump recorded a course PB
